A court has heard a garda was allegedly slashed across the head with a large kitchen knife after responding to reports of a stabbing in Dublin.

Detective Sergeant Brian Hoey said it would be alleged that the garda in question was responding to a reported stabbing outside some flats in Inchicore yesterday.
On arrival, he said a man with a suspected stab wound became “aggressive and threatening” towards gardaí before walking away from the scene.
Moments later, the court heard a man returned armed with a kitchen knife.
Sergeant Hoey said it would be alleged that he approached the garda from behind, and tried to stab him with the 8inch blade after he told him to drop it.
He said the garda was then slashed across the head with the knife.
He claimed another man got involved and the garda struggled with both.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and dragged the accused off him.
The garda was treated in hospital.
