The trial of two boys charged with raping a 16-year-old girl in a car in a field carpark at Limerick racecourse has heard evidence from five of the alleged victim's friends.

The boys who were aged 13 and 15 on the day of the alleged offences on the 26th of December 2022 are on trial at a sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Cork.

One of friends said the now 18-year-old woman was having trouble speaking in full sentences and said, ‘The car, the car’.

The witness said the complainant had said, “They would not stop” when she asked them to.

She said her friend was angry and had screamed before later that evening saying she did not want anyone else to know about what happened.

Two Gardaí gave evidence that the girl had attended a Garda station later that evening with her parents and she was examined by doctor at a Sexual Assault Treatment Unit that night.

A third boy is also on trial charged with aiding and abetting the two boys and with false imprisonment of the girl

The trial continues on Tuesday.
