The Commercial Court is to assess damages against bankrupt businessman Sean Quinn's nephew Peter Darragh Quinn.

It relates to allegations of asset stripping and follows last year's finding that he breached court orders.

Peter Darragh Quinn fled the jurisdiction and a 3 month jail sentence after being found guilty of contempt of court last June.

The Fermanagh businessman now says he's going to the European Court of Human Rights to appeal the finding that he put assets beyond the reach of IBRC in breach of court orders.

In the meantime the bank has secured judgment against him and four Quinn companies in its case over the alleged stripping of assets from the family's international property group.

Other Quinn family members are defending the action.

Peter Darragh Quinn says he couldn't instruct a solicitor to act on his behalf, due to the committal order against him.

He recently wrote Mr Justice Peter Kelly asking him to hold off on assessing damages but the judge refused.
