A woman with an intellectual disability has told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that having sex with her cousin made her feel dirty and used.

Her 50 year-old cousin will be sentenced later for having a sexual relationship with her over a five year period.

During summer holiday visits to his house in Dublin, he would give her a vodka and coke, and have sex with her.

The defendant, who can't be named, would give the woman money when she left.

He claimed he didn't know she had a mental impairment.

In a victim impact statement, the 44 year-old said she was afraid to report the incidents because she was worried she wouldn't be believed, and had nowhere else to go on holidays.

The Court was told when the case came to light in 2004, her fears were realised, there was hostility in the family, and she hasn't been on holiday since.
