A dedicated Creeslough Community Support Fund has been launched to help the people of the devastated Donegal town.

The fund is being managed by the Irish Red Cross in collaboration with An Post and Applegreen.

All donations will go to support those who have been bereaved, injured, made homeless or left without an income by Friday’s tragic explosion.

You can donate through the dedicated webpage or at any of the 920 Post Offices around the country.

Applegreen is promoting online donations at all 200 of its outlets and has also made an initial donation of €50,000 to the fund.

The Irish Red Cross said it is already supporting the courageous work being undertaken by State and local agencies in the town and will work with the local community to ensure that all donations are used to support those impacted over the coming weeks and months.

“The entire country has been shocked and saddened by events in Creeslough,” said Irish Red Cross Head of Fundraising Charlie Lamson.

“People want to show their solidarity with the community there at this hugely difficult time.

“The Creeslough Community Support Fund will enable the channelling of funds to the local community to provide practical help and support.”

Applegreen CEO Joe Barrett said the company has been inundated with offers of support from people all over Ireland since the explosion on Friday.

“All of Ireland has been touched by what has happened in Creeslough and I think people want to help in any way that they can,” he said.

“We’ll also continue to support our local partners in Creeslough over the coming days and months.”

The first of ten funerals will take place in the Donegal village tomorrow and locals remember their loved ones.

A number of vigils also took place last night, with locals telling Newstalk that the explosion has changed Creeslough and its people forever.
