The crew of the LÉ Eithne are returning from humanitarian operations in the Mediterranean.
The Irish naval vessel was deployed on May 23rd following Government approval, as part of Ireland’s response to the migrant crisis.
This was the ship's second deployment to the area.

During the deployment, LÉ Eithne and her crew rescued 1,187 people.
The crew is made up of 72 personnel.
It is returning to Haulbowline Naval Base in Cork.
To date, the Irish Naval Service has rescued 16,808 people.
