Croke Park is to be used as a "drive-thru" testing centre for COVID-19 following a request from the HSE.
The stadium is one of a number of facilities being set up across the country to test patients for the disease.
A spokesperson for Croke Park said it was acceding to a "high-level request" from the HSE today in the "national interest".
It will operate as a testing centre for people with appointments only and will not be used as a walk-up service.
Meanwhile, an online system to refer patients to get tested for the virus is back up and running after crashing earlier.
GPs had reported their phone lines were jammed and due to demand, the system couldn't cope when they tried to record a referral.
Speaking on Newstalk's The Hard Shoulder, GP Dr Maitiu O'Tuathail said they are now able to refer patients who need the test.
He said: "We were inundated with requests and calls.
"There was a new system launched today to allow us to refer patients online but unfortunately that crashed very quickly after being opened.
"It is back up and running now and there is a bit of a backlog but we can refer as many patients as we need for testing."
Speaking earlier today, the Minister for Health Simon Harris urged people to be patient.
He said: “Our GPs are working flat out but the level of demand is very, very high.
“You can’t order a test yourself. It needs to be on the recommendation of a GP.
“Please bear with your GPs who are working extraordinarily hard. We are setting up testing centres around the country today where our GPs will refer you to a testing centre.
"So yes, this is going to take a bit of time but everyone is working really, really hard and is really flat out on it.”
