The head of the US Anti-Doping Agency says Lance Armstrong is going to be banned from cycling for life and stripped of his 7 Tour de France titles.

It comes after he dropped his challenge against allegations that he took performance-enhancing drugs between 1999 and 2005.

But Armstrong is now involved in a row with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) after claiming it does not have the authority to strip him of his Tour titles.

He said in a statement on his personal website “There comes a point in every man’s life when he has to say, “Enough is enough.” For me, that time is now”.

He went on to say he was “finished with this nonsense” and criticised the USADA for what he called a “charade”.

David Walsh is Chief Sports Writer with The Sunday Times.

He told Breakfast here on Newstalk this was probably the best option open to Armstrong.
