The death of a cyclist in Mayo yesterday has led to renewed pleas to watch out for our most vulnerable road users.
The man aged in his 60s collided with a car on a minor road around five miles outside Westport.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and later removed to Mayo General Hospital.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 40s, did not require hospital treatment.
Investigating gardaĆ are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact Westport garda station.
The first person to die on our roads in 2015 was a woman, who lost her life while out walking in Donegal on new year's day.
Pedestrians and those on bikes are classed as vulnerable road-users, and accounted for almost a quarter of all road deaths in 2014.
