The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has gone to the High Court to try stop industrial action by SIPTU as part of a pensions dispute.
Lawyers for the DAA told the court they believe staggered 2-hour work stoppages from next Monday would have the effect of closing Dublin, Shannon and Cork Airports.
Lawyers for the DAA say they have no option but to come to court and try put a halt to industrial action next week over pensions.
The Irish Airlines Superannuation Scheme is running a deficit understood to be in the region of €700 million.
The union SIPTU claims negotiations on its future have reached an impasse.
It served notice of industrial action on the DAA and Aer Lingus earlier this month.
The DAA says staggered 2 hour work stoppages from the early hours of next Monday will shut down the main Irish airports.
It claims 2 critical groups of DAA workers – the fire and police service and the search unit which carries out security checks – are barred from striking under 2 separate work agreements.
The DAA has been given permission to serve notice on the union of a motion they are bringing this Friday to try and secure court orders stopping industrial action.
