Rocky Flintstone, the erotic novelist who inspired the My Dad Wrote A Porno podcast, is to make his first and final appearance on the series.
Rocky is the father of comedian James Morden and after retiring from the building trade took to writing erotic fiction in a garden shed he calls ‘The Pavilion’.
So far he has produced nearly a dozen novels and son James diplomatically describes them as “not the best written books in the world”.
“He sent me the first three chapters - which I still am like, ‘Why would you send your son the pornography you’ve been writing?’ It’s a very extraordinary life choice,” he recalled to Moncrieff.
“I was so flabbergasted and then I read it and it was just so funny that I couldn’t help but share it with my mates and then they loved it, so we decided to make a podcast.”
The novels all feature the same heroine and after James reads out a chapter, his two friends then do some textual analysis as if it were an English seminar.
“They’re all about a woman called Belinda, a sales director at a pots and pans company, and she goes around the world selling pots and pans and has an awful lot of fun on the way,” James said.
The podcast has been downloaded millions of times - a success James attributes to universality of “embarrassing parents” and the banter the three friends have together.
James describes his Dad as the “biggest wind up merchant on the planet” and says the podcasters take a “warm and affectionate” view towards him and his literature.
Rocky Flintstone, whose real name has never been revealed, will be appearing on the podcast as the show wraps up.
