Officials from the Office of Public Works have been asked to appear before the Public Accounts Committee next month.
It is in relation to the bike shed installed in Leinster House which cost the taxpayer €336,000.
Earlier this week in the Dáil Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó'Fergháil described the ordeal as a "profound embarrassment".
Mr Ó Fearghaíl said it would have been “remiss” of him not to make a statement about the bike shelter as the Dáil returned after its summer break.
“Members of this House have received countless emails, texts and phone calls about the exorbitant cost of the shelter," he said.
“Nobody can understand how a simple structure to park bikes ended up costing €336,000 of taxpayers’ money.
“I know that I speak for everyone in this house when I say it’s a profound embarrassment and the depth of public anger is entirely justified.”

Taoiseach Simon Harris has said the bike shelter’s cost is “inexcusable and inexplicable” and welcomed the OPW inquiry into it.
It is understood the bike shelter costs included nearly €3,000 for archaeological services and €11,000 for quantity surveying.
It means construction of the shelter itself cost over €322,000.
The Irish Independent reports the Public Accounts Committee meeting is scheduled for October 10th and that the committee will be requesting all documentation related to the contract for the bike shed.
