The 34th Dáil has resumed to elect a Taoiseach following an extensive meeting between opposition party leaders and the coalition leaders this morning.
The meeting took place to address the impasse which prevented the nomination of Taoiseach from taking place yesterday.
The opposition wanted assurances a group of Government-supporting Independent TDs would not take up opposition speaking time.
Outgoing Chief Whip Hildegarde Naughton said the Dáil will now reconvene the Reforms Committee to resolve the issue.
"The Government is fully committed to working with all parties and none in the Committee to make the required changes that are fair not only to members of this current Dáil but future Dáils in the years ahead," she said.
"We will aim to have this resolved by February 5th."
Earlier this morning, Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy announced that she will not recognise a Dáil group containing TDs who support the Government as members of the opposition for today’s proceedings.
