It has been confirmed that Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary will replace Robert Troy as a junior minister.
Deputy Troy resigned his position this day last week amid controversy over his failure to fully declare his property interests in the Dáil register.
Minister Calleary has been handed the role just over two years after he was forced to resign as Agriculture Minister over the Golfgate scandal.
In a statement, the Government confirmed that he will now take on the role of Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
Taoiseach Micheal Martin said: “Dara brings considerable experience to this role, having already served in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.”
“A professional and diligent worker, I have no doubt Dara will hit the ground running, in helping indigenous Irish companies face the significant challenges and opportunities ahead, as well as overseeing important legislative reforms of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board.”
Earlier this year, four people charged with organising the Golfgate event were acquitted of all charges.
The judge found that the defendants complied with the regulations “not in the court of public opinion but in the court of law” and said the infamous event took place “in two distinct areas in a very large hotel”.
