The DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport) is set to increase the frequency of its services following a recent rise in passengers. Some may say this is a long time coming.
But how does our rapid rail city transport compare to our European counterparts?
We took a look at seven of the major cities across Europe with a similar population size and some other factors. This resulted in some fancy graphs shown below revealing some of the statistics. Here is a summary of what we found from our research:

- Most cities call their rapid transport ‘Metro’, but Munich has the ‘U-Bahn’, Dublin has the DART and Glasgow has the ‘Subway’.
- Glasgow has the third oldest underground metro system in the world after London and Budapest.
- Milan has the most annual passenger footfall.
- Barcelona has the biggest metro system with nine lines and 164 stations.
- Copenhagen has the most expensive single journey ticket which averaged at €3.21
- Not featured but perhaps of interest that some big cities around the world such as Sydney, Panama and Liverpool do not have a metro system.
