The daughter of rape victim Fiona Doyle says her mother has paved the way for victims everywhere.

Kristel O'Brien was speaking after 72-year-old Patrick O'Brien had his bail revoked yesterday.

He was convicted of raping his daughter Fiona over a 9-year period but walked free from court last week.

He was given a 12-year sentence with 9-years suspended last Monday.

However Mr. Justice Paul Carney admitted yesterday it was "inappropriate" to release him and Patrick O'Brien began serving a 3-year sentence.

Fiona Doyle will meet with the Taoiseach Enda Kenny next week to discuss the case and the courts system.

While 2 marches will be held in Dublin and Bray tomorrow in a show of support.

"Profound regret" from Judge Carney

Yesterday Mr. Justice Paul Carney accepted that releasing the 72-year-old last Monday was inappropriate and insensitive.

The judge also said he had no hesitation expressing his ''profound regret'' to the victim Fiona Doyle.

Speaking to reporters outside the Criminal Courts of Justice yesterday she said she was happy with the decision and feels vindicated.

Ms. Doyle has urged her father 'as a sign of remorse' not to appeal his 3-year jail sentence which she said in his present ill health 'is a lifetime for him'.

He pleaded guilty to raping and indecently his daughter from 1973 to 1982 at Mackintosh Park, Pottery Road in Dun Laoghaire.

Her daughter Kristel says they hope to provide support for other victims too.

She spoke to Breakfast here on Newstalk.
