Speaking with Shona Murray at the IBEC and Accenture Annual Lecture last night, he said “Companies are using the lack of an international system to turn in 0.127% corporation tax, that’s a different matter.
“But, I never joined the chorus that started pointing the finger at Ireland.
“There is no suggestion that what Ireland does in regard to tax is illegal, it’s a choice, I don’t believe you can sustain the argument that Britain has low growth because Ireland has a particular corporation tax, any country has a mix.
“You need international cooperation between business and states”.

Speaking on the prospect of Britain leaving the EU, he said “It would be bad for Europe, bad for Britain and bad for Ireland if Britain leaves the EU – Ireland will lose a strong ally in the EU.
“Britain is already weak in Europe – Ireland doesn’t one of its key allies to be a second class citizen in Europe.”
