Gardaí are treating the death of a toddler who was struck by a car in the driveway of his home as a tragic accident.

The 18-month-old boy was taken to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries after the incident, but he later died.

Emergency services attended the scene shortly after it happened in Skibbereen in West Cork at around 5pm yesterday.

The coroner has been notified and a post-mortem is due to take place later today.
