The Garda Representative Association has said it is ‘deeply regrettable' that another young Garda has been injured while on duty.
The Garda was knocked down while responding to reports of a man armed with a sword, at Castleknock in Dublin, on Sunday night.
He has been released from hospital after treatment for a head injury - but remains off duty.
Local Sinn Fein TD Paul Donnelly has said there simply are not enough Gardaí employed to ensure their colleagues are protected when responding to call outs.
“People are really concerned, they’re really worried about their own safety, about the safety of their property and action needs to be taken by senior Guards to ensure that we have the resources to make our community safe,” he said.
Deputy Donnelly will meet Superintendent Emer Curran at Blanchardstown Garda Station today and press senior management for increased resources to help police the district.
