Food delivery drivers in Cork and Dublin will carry images of missing people on their backs throughout the month of December.
Deliveroo is partnering with the National Missing Persons helpline for the ‘Bring Them Home’ campaign.
The campaign will see 100 riders carrying images of four missing persons along with their details:
- Trevor Deely, last seen on Baggot Street, Dublin
- Gerard Taylor, last seen in Sandyford, Dublin
- Barry Coughlan, last seen in Crosshaven, Cork
- Mark Smyth, last seen in Ardee, Louth
The company is also donating €10,000 to the helpline.
It follows similar campaigns in the Belgium, France, the Netherlands and the UK – where four people were found alive.
Dermot Browne from the National Missing Persons helpline said: “Christmas is a special time when families come together to celebrate the holiday and renew their special bond.”
“However, amidst all of the glitter, flashing lights and present giving, families of the missing will be seeing that empty chair at the Christmas table and remembering a time when their loved one was sat there.
“We hope this partnership with Deliveroo and our Bring Them Home campaign will raise awareness of those who are missing and help reunite families.”
According to figures from the helpline, around 8,700 people are reported missing every year.
While the vast majority are found within 24 hours, around 45 people reported missing in 2018 remain missing.
Deliveroo spokesman Michael Healy said the NMP helpline is “life-changing for families.”
“We hope that over the festive period our Bring Them Home campaign will help reunite missing people with their friends and family, as well as raise awareness of the National Missing Persons helpline’s work and all the families they support,” he said.
