People will soon be able to donate their Deposit Return Scheme money from bottles and cans to a number of children's charities.
Re-turn, the operators of the scheme, have entered into a partnership with Barnardos Ireland, Barretstown, Childline by ISPCC, Jack & Jill, LauraLynn Children’s Hospice and Make-A-Wish Ireland.
People at large events such as festivals, concerts and sports matches can donate their bottles and cans at designated Deposit Return Scheme bins for charity.
The money raised will be equally divided between all six charities which represent over 165,000 service users.
LauraLynn CEO Kerry McLaverty told Newstalk Breakfast the bins will be easy to spot.
"We're hoping that people will take the time to take their undamaged and empty bottles and cans when they're attending events and return them to the big, bright, orange branded Re-turn bins," she said.
"For every bottle and can that is returned, the deposit will make a donation towards our fabulous six charities.
"We think it has massive potential to combine a really good initiative around children's charities but also making the sustainable impact for Ireland as well".
Ms McLaverty said the pilot scheme is starting straight away.
"It'll run for 12 months and hopefully we'll make it really successful," she said.
"Straight away we have Taste of Dublin that's happening tomorrow for three days.
"We have Electric Picnic lined up in August and also the National Ploughing Championship that's happening in September," she added.
Ms McLaverty also encouraged other organisers to get in touch with Re-turn to have the charity Deposit Return Scheme bins at their events.
