It has emerged that the property developer Kevin McGeever faked his own abduction.

According to today's Sunday Times, the 68-year-old businessman was under serious pressure to pay back deposits he took for properties in Dubai that never existed or were not being built.

McGeever alleged he went missing last summer, and was held captive before being found by a passerby on a road in Co Leitrim in January this year.

Gardaí arrested McGeever last Thursday on suspicion of wasting garda time, and a file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
