An Army bomb disposal team has made safe a viable explosive device in Co Donegal.

The incident happend in Carrigart near Milford this morning.

The Defence Forces unit was called to the scene by gardaí shortly before 9am.

A cordon and road closures were put in place, and a number of nearby houses were evacuated during the alert.

The suspect device was later confirmed as viable and was made safe without the need for a controlled explosion.
