Diageo is aiming to double its production of Guinness 0.0 in Dublin with a €30 million investment in its St James’s Gate Brewery.
The announcement brings the company’s investment in Guinness 0.0 to almost €60 million since the drink was launched three years ago.
The move is expected to bring St James’s Gate’s Guinness 0.0 production capacity to 176 million pints per year – almost double it capacity from last year.
Speaking on a visit to St James’s Gate, Tánaiste Micheál Martin said the investment is a “welcome boost to the area surrounding St James’s Gate”.
He said he was also updated on the work being done to bring the historic Rupert Guinness Theatre in the Liberties back to community use during his visit.
“[This investment] follows increased demand for non-alcoholic beer, as more and more consumers move towards moderation,” he said.
“Additionally, the efforts to return the Rupert Guinness Theatre to community use are hugely welcome, as it is important that the Liberties, and indeed the wider locality of the South Inner City, have the community spaces they require.
Fianna Fáil Senator Catherine Ardagh said Diageo was working with the Government and Dublin City Council (DCC) on plans to bring the theatre back into use.
“The Theatre has been vacant for too long,” she said.
“Dublin 8 needs more community spaces and if this historic theatre is successfully returned to use it would be hugely positive for the entire South Inner City.”
Diageo first launched Guinness 0.0 in July 2021.
