DJ and music producer Andrew Weatherall has died aged 56, his PR agency announced.
The producer was known for his work on popular club remixes of hit tracks including New Order's World In Motion, Primal Scream's I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have, and Happy Mondays' Hallelujah.
His most famous project was Primal Scream's 1991 album Screamadelica, which was a chart hit and won the first-ever Mercury Music Prize in 1992.
The Briton found fame in the 1980s as part of the acid house movement, founding the record label Boy's Own Recordings and production outfit Bocca Juniors.
Another of Weatherall's most notable tracks was his take on Soon by My Bloody Valentine, which was ranked the best remix ever by music magazine NME in 2011.
He died of a pulmonary embolism at a London hospital today.
His management, Prescription PR, said: "We are deeply sorry to announce that Andrew Weatherall, the noted DJ and musician, passed away in the early hours of this morning, Monday 17 February 2020, at Whipps Cross Hospital.
"The cause of death was a pulmonary embolism. He was being treated in hospital but unfortunately the blood clot reached his heart. His death was swift and peaceful.
"His family and friends are profoundly saddened by his death and are taking time to gather their thoughts. Further announcements regarding funeral arrangements will be made in due course."
