The 7-year-old girl at the centre of a HSE care order was removed from the house in which she was living in Tallaght in Dublin on Monday afternoon.

The decision to place the girl in care was taken after the Roma family were unable to produce a valid birth cert.

Gardaí called to the house on foot of concerns raised about her identity - because she had pale skin and blonde hair.

DNA tests

The results of DNA tests released to Gardai this evening - show the young girl is the couple's biological daughter.

In a second similar case - a 2-year-old boy was reunited with his Roma parents in Athlone today - after spending last night in the care of the HSE.

Following inquiries - Gardai say they are satisfied he is with his biological parents.

A number of representative groups - including the Irish Traveller Movement and the Migrant Rights Centre - are expressing concerns about the removal of the two children.

Calls for inquiry

Gardaí have release a statement on the matter, saying they take seriously all reports from the public about child welfare.

They say they have a policy "which remains under constant review" into issues of crimes against children and child welfare.

Martin Collins is a spokesperson for traveller and Roma group Pavee Point. He's calling for an independent inquiry into the decisions and actions of both the Gardaí and the HSE.
