Doctors will vote on the Haddington Road Agreement, after the Irish Medical Organisation advised members to accept the revised deal.
The union - which represents up to 4,000 doctors - has decided to ballot members on the agreement by post over the coming weeks.
A spokesperson for the IMO, Ray Gordon, says the council had a lengthy debate on the issue last night, and the decision to let members vote on it was not unanimous.
