Two UCD graduates are attempting to rid the nation of crumpled shirts with their novel start-up business.

Finbarr Maguire and David Ronan of PurOrigin have scooped the prestigious NovaUCD 2012 Start-Up Award for their innovative, energy-efficient clothes dryer.

PurOrigin won a cash prize of €5,000, six months free desk space at NovaUCD, as well as consultancy services from Deloitte, Arthur Cox, Aristo, Delaney Financial Consultancy and NewMarket Partnership.

The PurDry is a combination of a clothes horse and tumble dryer, can be folded up and stored away, promises to halve your drying bill and the UCD graduates are hopeful they even can make it smartphone-compatible so it can be started when people are out of the house.

Page 1 of the Irish Examiner reports that the makers hope to have the product on shelves next year.
