Donald Trump has been warned not to play golf until the end of the US Presidential Election, due to fears over his safety.
Former president Trump was shot at last month while golfing at his property in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The gunman was identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, who has since been charged with attempted assassination.
Overnight, it emerged that federal agents are not satisfied he can be fully protected on the course and have asked him to stop golfing until the end of the campaign.
A secret service representative confirmed that Trump is “receiving the highest levels of protection” but that his campaign had asked for more.
His campaign reportedly requested the use of military aircraft and vehicles to protect him during the final weeks of the election, which is set to take place on the 5th of November.
They have also reportedly asked for more flight restrictions over his homes and campaign rallies and have set up ballistic glass at events in battleground states.
Apart from the attempt on his life, Trump’s campaign said he had also been briefed by US intelligence officials on alleged threats from Iran to assassinate him last month.
All presidential candidates are protected by the secret service, but US President Joe Biden has now given authority for Mr Trump to be protected as if he was currently a sitting president himself.
Not being able to golf will mark a huge change in Trump’s lifestyle.
If he goes without golf until the election, it will be the longest he has gone without the game since the COVID pandemic, according to NBC.
Mr Trump has not been seen on a green since the failed assassination attempt.
Apart from playing regularly, he also owns eighteen golf properties across the world, including one in Doonbeg, County Clare.
