Over €1,000 has been donated to the charity chosen by swimmer Paraic Casey following his death in the English Channel.

The 42-year-old got into difficulties in the water just off the French coast yesterday.

A post mortem is due to be carried out.

However it is suspected he suffered a heart attack.

His mycharity.ie page is raising money for Marymount Hospice in Cork.

It has seen a surge in support following the tragedy.

Some of those who have donated have left messages describing Paraic as an “inspiration” and “the kindest hero”.
