Drug treatment groups are calling for the establishment of injection centres in Dublin City Centre, in order to help combat drug use in public.
It's one of a number of measures contained in a report highlighting the need for a new approach to respond to the problem.
The report by Merchants Quay Ireland and the Ana Liffey Drug's Project shows 45% of intravenous drug users are Hepatitis C positive.
And Executive Director of the Ana Liffey Drug's Project, Tony Duffin, says three-quarters of all addicts in Dublin are using more than one drug:

The Minister of State for Primary Care Alex White will launch the seminar 'A Safer City for All- addressing the risks of injecting drug use' which is organised by Merchants Quay Ireland and the Ana Liffey Drug's Project today.
