A drug similar to cannabis is going to be tested on patients with advanced cancers.

The early stage trial will investigate the potential of dexanabinol for treating a range of solid tumours.

The drug, which is made in a lab, is from a family of compounds similar to those found in cannabis, but it causes none of the psychological effects.

Scientists say patients over the age of 65 who start taking benzos have a 50% increased chance of developing dementia within 15 years.
