Businesses in Dublin are welcoming plans for new luggage drop-off points in the city centre for people travelling to the airport.
The Dublin Airport Authority is looking at ways to allow passengers to check in at different locations – with their baggage delivered to the airport by courier.
The authority is looking for a partner to run the service in the New Year.
Dublin Chamber spokesperson Graeme McQueen said it would be a great service for the city.
“I think we want to see this type of innovation coming into Dublin,” he said.
“I think it is great to see Dublin Airport looking at this type of idea.
“Making the user experience at Dublin Airport that little bit better is just good news for everyone.
“We are bringing in millions of people from all over the world to Dublin and this is potentially something that could leave a very good impression.”
He said the move could benefit businesses around the country.
“I think all the time we are trying to make the visitor experience in Dublin and other Irish cities better so the idea that you could drop your bag off in town for a flight later in the day and you turn up at the airport and your bags are there for you – that seems makes things a lot easier,” he said.
“So it is an idea we would certainly like to see pursued.”
