The Dublin Airport Authority has been given legal authority to jam drone's radar signal, after a number of flights were grounded last summer due to interference.
The airport was forced to close six times in 2023 year because of drone sightings.
Following the incidents, the telecoms regulator Comreg has now approved a new legal instrument to facilitate the jamming of drone signals.
Editor of Travel Extra Eoghan Corry said the decision was ‘vital’ to ensuring Dublin airport’s authority.
“It's absolutely vital that somebody in the airport has the authority to prevent drones being used to stop flights,” he said.
“It's illegal, we know, to bring a drone within five kilometres of the airport, but the prosecution process and the stopping of drones has just proved too convoluted for the existing legal mechanism.”
A man was previously arrested in early 2023 in connection to drone flying at the airport.
