Ireland has come fifth in a list of the best shopping cities in the world.

Travel magazine Condé Nast has said: "Most guidebooks will recommend Grafton Street, but you can escape the chain stores (and crowds) by heading a few blocks west to Dublin’s Creative Quarter."

It says the area is "bursting with artsy stores and cafes, including the Irish Design Shop, which offers Irish-made souvenirs and workshops in its in-house studio."

It also cites the "all-inclusive" Powerscourt Centre as a must see.

Topping the list of the 24 best shopping cities is Barcelona in Spain, finding that the Passeo de Gracia is "perhaps the city's most fashionable area."

Philadelphia, Hong Kong, Chicago, San Francisco, Madrid, Honolulu, Rome and Portland, Oregon round out the top 10 - in that order.

Our nearest neighbour London comes in at number 17, with the magazine finding that "while you can always stop by designer venues or Instagram the lit-up exterior at Harrod's, the huge network of markets is the city's real retail draw."

Paris - known for its renowned fashion labels - just about makes it on the list at number 23, while New York comes in last at 24.
