At 10.30 this morning, the Number 4 bus, travelling towards the city centre along Northumberland Road, crashed into a large branch.
The impact smashed the windows of both decks and did considerable damage to the bumper.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the driver was taken to hospital.
Dublin City Council workers and Dublin Bus inspectors were on site to clear the road of the tree debris and remove a large branch from under the vehicle so it could be towed from the scene.
The necessary work was completed at 2:30pm this afternoon and the road reopened.
In a statement, Dublin Bus said all passengers got off the bus safely.
The company said the incident is under internal investigation.
