Dublin City Council plans to spend more than €120,000 a month on the Poolbeg incinerator project.
That is despite a significant question mark hanging over the future of the project. So far more than €95 million has been spent on the project without a brick being laid.
Now Dublin City Council plans to spend an extra €620,000 on the project to the end of June. The money is being used to pay for site security, monitoring, professional advice and other costs.
The additional budget is going ahead on the basis that construction on the plant will start in July.
However the future of the project hinges on an upcoming ruling by the European Commission on complaints over State aid and procurement rules.
Earlier this year the Dublin City manager Owen Keegan said the project must not go up in smoke otherwise the state will face a hefty legal bill and the chance to get back taxpayers money will be gone.
Sandymount resident Joe McCarthy says it does not make any sense to spend more money when its future is not certain.
