A Dublin couple who ended their pregnancy after being wrongly advised that their unborn child had a fatal foetal abnormality have settled their case out of court.

Rebecca Price and Patrick Kiely sued the National Maternity Hospital, the five consultants who own the Merrion Fetal Health Clinic in Dublin and a lab in Glasgow.

Liability was admitted by the defendants yesterday and a settlement was reached this evening, following extensive negotiations behind the scenes.

After the judge was informed of the development, the couple's solicitor Caoimhe Haughey made a brief statement on their behalf outside court.

“Nothing will take away Rebecca and Pat’s love for their son Christopher Joseph who would be two-years-old this summer,” she said.

“Rebecca and Pat would like to meet with the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly as soon as possible to work with him on ways to ensure this never, ever happens again.”
