Dublin Fire Brigade received a significantly higher volume of calls last night than it did on Halloween last year.
Halloween continues to be Dublin Fire Brigade’s busiest night of the year and yesterday the service received over 490 calls about fire and 435 ambulance requests.
In comparison, there were 244 fire calls and 385 ambulance calls placed in 2023.
On Newstalk Breakfast today, Dublin Fire Brigade’s Chief Fire Officer John Guilfoyle said the organisation had received double its usual call volume on Halloween night.
“If you take yesterday, we received over 1,000 calls,” he said.
“The average daily activity is in the region of 550 to 600, so we're looking at double our activity in that 24-hour period.”
Anti-social behaviour
Mr Guilfoyle also said that some crews had experienced anti-social behaviour while on patrol.
“Unfortunately, we had a number of events last night, but thankfully our crews didn’t experience any injuries,” he said.
“There was some damage to one or two of our fire appliances and so forth.
“There were fireworks directed at our fire appliances, and unfortunately a number of our ambulance crews also experienced anti-social behaviour.”
While no crew members received injuries last night, Mr Guilfoyle said that the festivities can “very easily get out of control”.
Of the 490 requests for fire calls, 420 were Halloween related.
Dublin City Council removed 450 tonnes of stockpiled rubbish that was destined for bonfires before the night kicked off.
