A Dublin-based Garda has appeared in court charged with harassing two women on four different occasions. Donal Maguire, who has served at Aras an Uachtarain, is due to stand trial for the alleged offences.
Garda Maguire appeared in court today after being arrested at his mother's home in Bundoran, Co. Donegal yesterday morning.
He is facing four counts of harassment against two alleged victims on various dates between September 2012 and the 19th of this month.
The alleged offences took place at the Jervis Shopping Centre and at North Great Clarence Street in Dublin.
The court heard he no longer lives with his wife and four children at their Dublin home, and spent some time in a mental health hospital last month. His estranged wife is not one of the alleged victims.
Garda Maguire was suspended on three-quarters pay pending the outcome of this prosecution - and is still considered a serving member of the force.
He was granted bail today and is due to appear in court again in May for Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) directions.
