Des Walsh will tonight carry the Paralympic flame through Aylesbury in Dublin.
The employee of Kraft Foods in Coolock is very much looking forward to his event saying “the opportunity to run with the torch is a lifetime ambition“.
Des is a native of Glasnevin and current Leixlip resident and was nominated by fellow employees as an exemplary colleague.
They say he has always demonstrated his “personal best” and has gone the extra mile in aid of others.
Des has done work in his local community as well as taking on roles of coach and chief fundraiser at his local athletics club.
He has also run 4 marathons to raise funds for local sports clubs which focus on getting underprivileged children into sport.
In a break from tradition London 2012 has created a unique identity for the Paralympic Torch Relay involving flame lighting ceremonies at each of the 4 nations capitals before uniting at Stoke Mandeville.
The flame will then be embarking on a 24-hour tour relay to the Stratford in London to light the Cauldron at the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games tomorrow.
