A Dublin man has been found guilty of murdering a security worker five years ago. Criostoir MacCartaigh (36) of an Gleann in Palmerstown was sentenced to life behind bars for killing David Whyte who was stabbed over 100 times.
On September 26th 2008 a passerby stumbled upon the body of Mr. Whyte while out walking his dog near a graveyard at the end of Mill Lane in Palmerstown.
A post mortem revealed he died after being stabbed over 100 times - the most serious of which cut the jugular vein in his neck.
During his murder trial, the court heard how Criostoir MacCartaigh got into a row with Mr. Whyte who just happened to be walking along Ulster Street in Phibsboro when his killer left a house party.
MacCartaigh's friend told the court he spotted the victim lying on the ground while he crouched over him with a knife.
He then helped him move the body to the old cemetery where MacCartaigh continued to stab him before dumping his body.
A jury found him guilty of murder today and he has been sentenced to life behind bars.
