A 50-year-old Dublin taxi driver has been found guilty of raping two female passengers in the back of his taxi on separate dates during the summer of 2022.

Raymond Shorten - of Melrose Crescent in Clondalkin - had claimed the sexual activity was consensual.

Now that Raymond Shorten has been convicted of all charges, his right to anonymity falls away without fear of identifying the two survivors.

Two of the rape charges related to a young woman he picked up in Dublin city in June 2022, while the third related to another female passenger whom he raped in the back of his taxi two months later.

The prosecution described him as “predatory” and accused him of targeting vulnerable young women as they tried to make their way home from a night out.

He denied the allegations, claiming what happened in both cases was consensual, but after deliberating for just 76 minutes the jury found him guilty on all counts.

Raymond Shorten was remanded in custody ahead of his sentence hearing next month.
