Dublin TD Paul Murphy has unveiled his new political group RISE - standing for Radical Internationalist Socialist Environmentalist.
Deputy Murphy last week announced he had left the Socialist Party following an "extensive debate".
His new group RISE won’t be registering as a political party, but as a third party with SIPO.
He suggests it's a group that wants to build a broader left in Ireland.
Deputy Murphy - who is the new organisation's only elected official - will still be part of the Solidarity-People Before Profit grouping in the Dáil.
Speaking at today's launch, Deputy Murphy acknowledged some people will see it as the left fracturing again.
He suggested: "[For] people who are at a distance from the left... these debates may seem a bit obscure. I understand that.
"Watch what we say, watch what we do, let things play out over a period of months. I think the differences in strategy will become clear to people."

The new group's policies include a push for a 'socialist new green deal' - aimed at fighting climate change and inequality.
They're calling for a transition to 100% publicly-owned green energy, as well as a zero-carbon economy by 2030 and "free, green and frequent" public transport.
Elsewhere, they're calling for an end to religious control of hospitals and schools, and a four-day working week with no loss of pay.
The new group says they want to bring together "left, environmental, anti-austerity and community activists [and] trade unionists".
However, they're pledging to say no to any coalition with "establishment and pro-capitalist parties".
