A Dublin man has been jailed for six months for a fatal assault on Longford man Danny McGee in New York.
The 21-year-old was found unresponsive outside a pub in Queens on November 22nd 2018.
He was taken to hospital but later pronounced dead.
In November, Dubliner Steven O'Brien, with an address at 42nd Street, Queens, New York, admitted punching Mr McGee once to the side of the head during an argument outside the Gaslight Bar.
He pleaded guilty to a third-degree assault as part of a plea deal which will see him serve six months in prison.
That sentence was officially handed down at Queens County Criminal Court today.
At the hearing, O’Brien’s lawyer said his client was remorseful for his actions.
In an emotional victim impact statement, Mr McGee’s mother said her son was a “gentleman,” adding that his violent death had left her in disbelief.
