Dublin's Geansaí Nollaig event breaks world record for its turnout

The Geansaí Nollaig event has broken a world record for its turnout.

Hundreds descended on Dublin city today wearing their cheesiest Christmas jumpers, in an attempt to set the record.

1,297 people gathered on O'Connell Street this evening in their finest Christmas jumpers in order to break last year's record of 875.

It is part of the Christmas tree lighting ceremony on O'Connell Street.

Santa and his eves escorted Lord Mayor Christy Burke to the event in a horse-drawn sleigh in aid of WALK.

The charity hopes to raise awareness for people who suffer with disabilities.

The Santa Sleigh initiative is the first of a series of projects designed by WALK to create an awareness of the abilities of people with intellectual disabilities.
