Dunnes Stores workers are marching to the retailer's head office in Dublin tomorrow.

It is part of their campaign to gain greater job security and end zero hours contracts, as well as the right to be represented by their trade union.

The march is being supported by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and follows a one day strike in April.

Writing on the Facebook page for tomorrow's event, organisers claim that since the strike, "Dunnes management have been engaging in a campaign of intimidation, with cuts to hours, changes to positions and shifts, and even some dismissals."

ICTU General Secretary Patricia King, speaking to Newstalk Breakfast this morning, says Dunnes Stores has full control over its workers hours and earnings:

The march follows the one-day work stoppage and a dispute over the sudden closure of Dunnes Stores in Gorey last month.

General Secretary of Mandate John Douglas said staff have been treated like bargaining chips.

“It is a national protest. We’re asking other trade unions and the public to assemble in Merrion Square at 1pm on the 6th of Jun and to march Dunnes Stores Head Office and to say, ‘listen enough is enough, stop treating your staff like this, it’s not fair, it’s not just. People deserve to be treated like human beings and have decency in their workplace, including a right to decent wages and a decent contract’,” he said.
