The DUP’s Jeffrey Donaldson is calling on Sinn Féin to make a complaint to the Police Ombudsman, if it believes there are members of the force who are against the peace process.

Yesterrday, The North’s Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness claimed an “old rump of the RUC” still exists within the PSNI and they’re trying to “settle old scores”.

BUT, MP Donaldson says Sinn Féin should stop interfering and allow the PSNI to get on with their investigation:

“There are many avenues available to anyone who has an issue about the police. There are the courts, there is the ombudsman process.

“But on the one hand we have Sinn Fein demanding that the police investigate all manner of things, and then at the same time when the finger is pointed, not by the police but by other republicans, at the leadership of Sinn Fein then all of a sudden the police should not be investigating these things. Now you cannot have that in a democratic society.”

The Sinn Féin Leader’s period of detention expires at 8 o’clock this evening - he’s been in custody for three full days for questioning- by police investigating the IRA murder of Jean McConville. Police in Antrim could seek more time to question Gerry Adams.
