The Government's giving Councils four weeks to count the exact cost of the recent storm damage.

Ministers last night discussed an interim report into the severe weather, and agreed that local authorities need to provide a detailed cost estimation in that time frame.

The Cabinet is then expected to announce what repairs are affordable - and when.

But insurers have been told to step up and deal with private claims.

Irish Water will come before the Public accounts committee this evening to discuss accountability within the new agency.

Yesterday, Irish Water revealed it will spend nearly 86 million euro on consultants by the middle of next year.

The PAC are to hold a special meeting with Irish Water's CEO, the Secretary General of the Department of the Environment and the regulator.

SIPTU members at the Liebherr plant in Killarney, County Kerry have rejected a Labour Court recommendation on back pay.

It had proposed the company pay a two and a half per cent increase in wages, backdated to May of 2012.

Management had insisted the pay rise would be subject to changes in work practices.

A statement on the vote is expected from SIPTU today.
