Eason has bought the Dubray Books brand and its stores.

Dubray will remain a separate brand and operate as normal, with the staff and management unchanged.

Dubray currently operates eight shops in the greater Dublin area and Galway, with the business generating operating profits of around €0.7 million.

The business opened its first store nearly 50 years ago, and until now has been operated by the Barry family.

In a statement, Gemma Barry said: "The transition in ownership to Eason is a logical step for Dubray and it will secure the future of the Dubray brand as a specialist book retailer.

"I look forward to seeing the business continue to flourish under Eason’s ownership.”

Liam Hanly, CEO of Eason Group, said Dubray reaches a different audience than Eason - suggesting that the brand will now complement the 'wider Eason offering'.

He added: "We are very excited by the potential to grow the Dubray business in conjunction with the continued development of the existing Eason retail offering in the coming years.”

Eason said the acquisition has been facilitated after its shareholders committed an extra €20 million in capital to the business in 2019.
